But today, I want to tell you 3 reasons why buying a 2nd-hand electric bicycle can actually be more expensive than getting a 1st-hand one.

1) The more the electric bicycle has been used, the less capacity the battery will have. If you buy a 2nd-hand electric bicycle which is 1 -2 years old, you will at most be left with only 5 – 15km of mileage per charge.

2) In most cases, there will be no warranty (or finished warranty) to cover any damages/defects/faults and you will usually have to go back to the bicycle shop from where the bicycle was bought from because not many other bicycle shops will be interested to help you repair the 2nd-hand bicycle. Also, the bicycle might be rusty, and the tires and brakes might be worn out.

3) You can find a cheap and good 1^st-hand electric bicycle on the market for around $680 onwards. While it is true that although you can probably get a 2nd-hand bicycle for about $300-400, you will realize that it can actually cost more than a 1st-hand one after factoring in the various costs.

• Battery Change (Lead – acid battery ~ $150 – $180, Lithium batteries ~ $400 to $500 )
• Tires Change ($20-$50 ),
• Brakes/ Minor fix-up / add-ons ($20 to $100 ), you would have paid more than the price of a brand-new electric bicycle with full warranty and support and brand new batteries.

I seriously do not recommend getting a 2nd-hand electric bicycle due to the reasons as stated above.

electric bicycle in singapore is more common than you think !

the place where you can find most electric bicycle should be geylang.

along geylang those streets, you can often see very very highly modified electric bicycle.

these electric bicycles can run up till 70km/hour !!! scary.

also, dun think that only ah peh or uncles use electric bicycles, nowdays nore and more executive and professionals are using it too ! haven seen much youngsters use it though, ( except me. haha )

i mean, its like so convenient to get from point a to point b using the electric bike,

probably saved about 1000 dollars on public transport fees since i started to use the electric bike.

you know, actually LTA law use to be quite good. we can have throttle and 4 batteries in our bike. however, due to some incidents at geylang area. ( those high speed bikes knocked into some people because the rider was drunk ),

then LTA have to come up with some new laws in response to the complain ma.

back in china, the amount of electric bicycle you can see on the streets is amazing.

i foresee sooner or later singapore will have the same scene also.

Some people ask me , why get an electrical bicycle? why not walk,  use a normal bicycle, or use a car, or motorbike instead?

That’s why I decided to do a comparison chart and here’s the difference !!!

Electrical Bicycle vs normal bicycle

• no need to perspire when using a electrical bicycle!
• get to places with about 5% of the effort used to ride a normal bicycle
• more fun!
• easier to carry pillion!! ( great for couples )

Electrical Bicycle vs Motorbike

• first thing is the cost of the petrol, yes motorbike petrol is quite cheap, but the cost to charge up the battery of an electrical bicycle is even cheaper !!! about 15cents for a full charge.  now thats what i call saving money.
• also, no need license !!!  good for people who wants to enjoy the feeling of riding a motorbike, but dont want to spend the effort to get the license.
• however, if you want to travel far distance ( pasir ris to jurong ), of course a motorbike would be more practical.
• for shorter distances however, electrical bicycle is the best form of transport you can use !

Electrical Bicycle vs Car

• about the same with the comparison with the motorbike, except, you save EVEN MORE MONEY !!!
• the purpose of these 2 vehicle is about the same, ie, to get you from point A to point B
• however, the price is very different!!!!
• a car can cost maybe about $1000/month
• an electrical bicycle will only cost $1000/lifetime ( except to change the batteries when you have covered alot of mileage ).
• do the maths yourself !!
• of course, for long distance travel with family, a car would still be more suitable.

Anyway, an electrical bicycle is the most fun toy you can have in your possession ! ( sports wise   )

when I wanted a electric bicycle initially, i was choosing between a electric scooter and an electric bicycle.

Finally, I made up my mind to get an electric bicycle instead as it

• usually has more range
• usually faster
• usually more comfortable to ride on

• more convenient for short distance
• more attention seeking than electric bicycle ( haha not sure if its good or bad )
• lighter in weight
• slower ( more safe )

So ultimately, I weight the pros and cons between an electric scooter and an electric bicycle and finally I made a decision to get an electric bicycle instead !

so , dear friend, look at what you want, then get what you want !
